HRSA is conducting a National Shortage Designation Update in 2025. As part of this update multiple counties are at risk of losing their HPSA status. As of December 2025 the following counties are proposed to drop “Whole" county HPSA designation to no HPSA designation: Chaves, Colfax, and Union counties. Another group of counties would drop from “Whole" county HPSA designations to “Part" county HPSA designations: De Baca, Dona Ana, Grant, Lincoln, McKinley, Rio Arriba, Roosevelt, San Juan, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Socorro.
